Meeting countless loves equals making countless comparisons. If you’ve met many of your loves before, there’s no denying that there’s one love that makes all your other loves irrelevant. If you constantly find yourself choosing one love over your other loves- particularly Mr. First and Mr. One, congratulate yourself because you’ve finally met Mr. Last. If you’ve read my previous posts about ‘Why There’s No One Like the First” and “Why There’s No One Like the One”, rejoice because you’ll finally get the happy ending that you’ve been expecting. And about the title? Well, read on for the justification. Sometimes, life decides to give a fair share of good times, too. Life wouldn’t be life without tragedy, but life wouldn’t be life without serendipity, too.

When you meet him, you are certain that he is the man you would want to spend the rest of your life with. He is your final stop; your destination, your home. He is the one who will lie down and forget the world with you, after a long day. He will hold you in his arms. He will take all the weight off your shoulders, carry all your burdens and keep all your baggage, for you. He is your sanctuary, and give you rest, will he. The Last One is the one who endeavors to make forever last, despite the fact that you’ve become cynical about forever’s promise. You think it’s impossible and nonexistent, but he tries anyway. He always tries; and so you try for the sake of trying too, not just to reciprocate the effort he has invested for you- and that’s what sets him apart from the rest.

He is the prize- the trophy that you receive after enduring every single goodbye, for surviving all the pain brought about by all those heartaches and heartbreak. He is the rainbow after the rain- the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow you spent so many hours, days, weeks, months and years simply trying to figure out how to acquire it. He is your Sun, you are his Moon- you constantly chase each other, and always miss one another; but when you do catch up, you kiss- and the world stares in awe of your eclipse. He is the angel who learned how to tame and dance with your demons. The Last One is the persistent pulse in a malfunctioning circulatory system, he is the one who keeps you going- the one who assures your survival and keeps you alive.

He makes your heart race faster than all of your past lovers did, combined. He makes you happier than anyone else ever did. His love for you is immeasurable beyond the most possible. He is the fusion of The First and The One- the quintessence of love in all of its forms, the incarnation of love. Believing in him wouldn’t be as easy due to all the struggles you’ve faced with every man who came before him- but he is the one who opens up your eyes and assures you that he is the one who will stay with you, for you.

He gives you more- more of everything everyone ever gave you. He and his love cause you to feel more, love more, need more, want more, do more and be more.

Being The Last One, he shows you the true meaning of the saying “Patience is a virtue.” The Last One makes you believe that God took his time to figure out the best one for you, and as a result, waited this long to give you the best- and to give him, the best. All your experiences were lessons for you to be the best one for The Last One, to prepare you for the sweetness of the surprise that is him. He is the one who will not just read all of your stories, but he will also keep you with him at all times. Wherever you go, he goes; you are his favorite book, his most treasured artifact.

He understands the presence of The First and The One in your heart, but he does not mind. He is not bitter and insecure about them, because he is certain that their occupancy is miniscule now, since he knows that time has eroded them from you- which explains why it took both of you so long to find one another. He is sure that he is your present tense, and he will do everything in his power to stay that way and become the future tense that you deserve. He accepts you for everything that you are, and everything that you will become- your past, your present and your future. And because of that, he will not try to erase them from you. The Last One is the one who will make you discover why The First One and The One were failed attempts. The Last One- he is the man who will make you realize that The One is not a prerequisite to happiness.

He may not be The First, he may not be The One, but he is the best one- the brightest Sun, the shiniest Star. He is the love that makes all your other loves irrelevant- he is the one that you deserve. Don’t question the game of love- from the countless Mr. Wrongs to the waiting time. You see, love has a way of saving the best for last. This is why The Last will always be the best among the rest.
